Anyone who cares to bother reading this is wasting their time at their own risk of course. OK, welcome back to my little journey, as of the summer of '09. Just had a data disk crash at home and am now restoring from an external disk. Don't think I lost much. Whew. Reminder to everyone to BACK UP NOW, as the end of your hard disk may be coming sooner than you care to think! This disk was upwards of 5 years old, but still... a nice SCSI Cheetah, no reason to die, no warnings, just suddenly... not there! So in a few hours I should have things back in place but will live for some time with the fear of "missing something." Whoo. Luckily work supplies me with a good quantity of surplus disks to swap-in, though the new one is smaller than the old, meaning I have to distribute things a bit now. And of course who knows how many shortcuts and so-on will have to be tweaked. But I've got some time now, so at least there's no panic.
